Speaking before the House of Representatives in Abuja on Tuesday, the Controller-General disclosed that the seized grains and essential food items were destined for neighboring countries including Niger Republic, Chad, Cameroon, and the Central African Republic.

Adeniyi emphasized the significance of the intercepted food items, stating that they were to be redistributed to local markets as directed by the President. This initiative aims to alleviate food scarcity and drive down prices in affected areas.

In his address, Adeniyi outlined the directives from the President to sell locally produced seized food items directly to needy Nigerians, with the initiative already underway in Lagos. Additionally, imported food items seized by the Nigeria Customs Service are to be sold back to local markets for resale to Nigerian consumers.

The interception of these trucks underscores the economic challenges faced by Nigeria, with widespread hardship and hunger evident across the nation. The government’s proactive measures aim to address these pressing issues and ensure food security for its citizens amidst economic adversity.
