Customs Cracks Down: 40ft Container Filled With Weapons And Codeine Seized

Adeniyi stated that the arms and drugs were concealed within shipments of used clothing. Several individuals connected to the seizures have been arrested and are currently in detention awaiting prosecution.

“The Command’s anti-smuggling efforts have resulted in the following seizures: one 20P 9964 Rifle; another 20P 9964 Rifle; one Pump Action Rifle; one Practical Tactical 30H 80019922 Rifle; another 20P 992 Rifle; two AV Pump Action Rifles; and another P10115 Rifle. In total, we have confiscated 11 rifles and six pistols from various containers imported at different times,” Adeniyi announced.

“In collaboration with the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), we have also seized psychotropic substances brought into the country. This cooperation has led to the seizure of several kilograms of Cannabis Sativa. Recently, we intercepted 23 packages containing 23 kilograms of heroin concealed in a container, the identity of which remains confidential due to ongoing investigations.”

Adeniyi emphasized that these efforts are part of the federal government’s commitment to ensuring national security. “The importers of these items likely intended to use them for criminal activities, including support for insurgents, kidnappings, and other activities detrimental to our nation’s security and well-being.”

Additionally, the Customs Area Controller reported that the command exceeded its revenue generation target for January 2024 by 107 percent. “In the first two months and 14 days of this year, the Tin-Can Customs Command has generated N240.3 billion. Our monthly revenue target is N94 billion, meaning we have surpassed our expected revenue target of N188 billion for January and February. We exceeded our January target by 107 percent and our February target by 141 percent. I won’t provide the percentage for March as the month is still ongoing.”
