Deadly Road Crash Claims Pregnant Woman, 2 Others Lives In Lagos-Ibadan Road
A pregnant woman and two other men reportedly died in the early hours of Thursday in a multiple road crash along the Lagos-Ibadan expressway.
Our correspondent gathered that the accident occurred around 5am at Danco axis of the highway, inbound Lagos, coming barely two days after a tablet explosion killed two persons along the Ogere stretch of the road.
It was gathered that the multiple crashes involved a DAF truck (flat body) marked XY 895 GGE, a granite-laden Iveco truck with registration number JBD 16 XY, a Mazda bus (LND 676 XX) loaded with tomatoes and another Mazda bus (BDG 755 YA) loaded with garri.
Eyewitnesses said the driver of the Mazda bus loaded with garri had lost control of the wheels due to overspeeding and rammed into a truck from the rear, leading to multiple hits by other vehicles.
The spokesman for the Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement (TRACE) Corps, Babatunde Akinbiyi, confirmed the incident in a terse statement made available to our correspondent on Thursday in Abeokuta.
Akinbiyi said: “Among the three casualties who died in the unfortunate crash, two males were occupants of the Mazda bus loaded with garri, while a pregnant woman was in the Mazda bus loaded with tomatoes.”
According to him, the dead victims were evacuated by the FRSC officials to Idera Private Morgue, Sagamu, while TRACE officials cleared the road to regulate and normalise traffic.
He added that all the vehicles involved had been towed to Sagamu police divisional headquarters.
Akinbiyi commiserated with the families of the dead, warning motorists to desist from excessive speeding, more so that the roads are wet with poor visibility affecting drivers who are fatigued before the break of dawn.
