- Queen Elizabeth II – GCON and GCFR
The late British monarch received the Grand Commander of the Order of the Niger (GCON) in 1969 and was later elevated to Nigeria’s highest honour, the Grand Commander of the Federal Republic (GCFR), in 1989. - Nelson Mandela – GCFR
South Africa’s anti-apartheid icon, Nelson Mandela, was honoured with the GCFR in 1990 by President Ibrahim Babangida in recognition of his leadership and the support Nigeria extended during his incarceration. - Muammar Gaddafi – GCFR
