Death Sentences For Trio Who Conspired To Kill Delta King
ASABA—A High Court in Delta State, located in Ibusa, Oshimili, has handed down death sentences to three individuals for the murder of Obi Edward Ofulue III, the traditional ruler of Ubulu-Uku…READ MORE…
The individuals, Suleiman Musa, Garba Abubakar, and Haruna—the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th defendants, respectively—were found guilty of conspiring to kidnap, rob, and ultimately kill the monarch on January 6, 2016.
The first defendant, Jemilu Ahmed, received sentences of five years and 14 years in prison, to be served concurrently, with no option of fine for two related charges.
Justice M. Omovie, who presided over the trial, determined that the prosecution successfully proved the ten charges against the defendants beyond a reasonable doubt. As a result, the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th defendants were sentenced to death by hanging.
In his remarks on the ruling, J. Odogun stated, “On January 6, 2016, the defendants conspired to kidnap, rob at gunpoint, and subsequently murder Obi Edward Akaeze Ofulue III, the king of Ubulu-Uku.” He emphasized that the evidence showed the defendants had acted together in the commission of these crimes.
