Justice M. Omovie, who presided over the trial, determined that the prosecution successfully proved the ten charges against the defendants beyond a reasonable doubt. As a result, the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th defendants were sentenced to death by hanging.

In his remarks on the ruling, J. Odogun stated, “On January 6, 2016, the defendants conspired to kidnap, rob at gunpoint, and subsequently murder Obi Edward Akaeze Ofulue III, the king of Ubulu-Uku.” He emphasized that the evidence showed the defendants had acted together in the commission of these crimes.
