Deputy Governor Shaibu Attacked For Inspecting Obaseki’s Projects – What Really Happened

Philip Shaibu, the recently reinstated deputy governor of Edo State, faced criticism after inspecting several ongoing projects in the state amidst his ongoing conflict with Governor Godwin Obaseki. On Monday, Shaibu toured key sites, including the multi-billion naira Radisson Blu Hotel, the Museum of West African Arts (MOWAA), and the reconstruction of Okada Avenue Road. His inspection drew reactions from Nigerians on social media, with some accusing him of hypocrisy for monitoring projects initiated by an administration he had previously criticized.

During the project tour, Shaibu shared updates on social media, noting his satisfaction with the progress made. At the Radisson Blu Hotel, the project manager provided a guided tour, highlighting that the first phase would be completed by November. Shaibu emphasized the need to adhere to deadlines while ensuring high-quality work. His inspection also included a review of the State CID Road’s drainage systems and a visit to MOWAA’s conservation facilities.

Despite Shaibu’s engagement, many users on X questioned his motives, accusing him of betraying Governor Obaseki while inspecting the same government projects he had once dismissed. Critics called him out for inconsistency, with some asserting that his actions contradicted his earlier statements about Obaseki’s performance in office. The backlash highlights the deepening political rift between the two leaders.
