Since taking over from fellow 1998 World Cup champion Laurent Blanc in 2012, the 56-year-old has led Les Bleus to significant success, culminating in their World Cup victory in 2018. Although France is yet to qualify for the upcoming World Cup, Deschamps will continue in his role until the tournament concludes.

As a coach, Deschamps has achieved remarkable feats, including guiding the national team to the World Cup final in 2022, where they lost to Argentina in a nail-biting penalty shootout. Deschamps, one of only three individuals to win football’s top honor as both a player and a coach, previously captained France to the 1998 World Cup and the 2000 European Championship.

FFF president Philippe Diallo stated that Deschamps will honor his contract until its completion in 2026.

A proven winner, Deschamps also led France to claim the 2021 Nations League title and has built teams known for their strong defensive capabilities and attacking flair, featuring stars like Kylian Mbappe.

As the search for his successor begins, Zinedine Zidane is the frontrunner for the position.
