A Circuit Court in Cook County, Illinois, United States, dismissed the lawsuit filed by Atiku Abubakar, seeking access to President Bola Tinubu’s confidential educational records at Chicago State University.

According to court documents obtained by Daily Trust on Sunday, Justice Patrick J. Heneghan dismissed the case without prejudice. The judge stated that the “Petitioner’s subpoena in this case is withdrawn, and thus Chicago State University will not be deposed pursuant to the subpoena in this case.”

The judgement, dated July 31, 2023, resolved all matters pending before the court and dismissed the case without any possibility of reconsideration.

Atiku and his associates had consistently claimed that President Tinubu did not attend Chicago State University, attempting to disqualify his candidature.

However, a leading official from Chicago State University reiterated that President Tinubu is a distinguished alumnus of the university. In an affidavit, the university’s registrar, Caleb Westberg, affirmed that “Bola Ahmed Tinubu graduated and was awarded a degree by Chicago State University on June 22, 1979.”

Efforts to obtain a reaction from Atiku Abubakar’s media office were unsuccessful. Atiku’s media adviser, Mr Paul Ibe, did not respond to calls or messages at the time of reporting this update.
