Gallas Expresses Doubts Over Arsenal’s Ability To Eliminate Real Madrid Despite First-Leg Advantage
Former Chelsea and French international defender, William Gallas, has voiced skepticism regarding Arsenal’s ability to progress past Real Madrid in their UEFA Champions League quarter-final clash, despite holding a commanding lead.
Arsenal heads into the second-leg fixture at the Santiago Bernabéu with a 3-0 advantage from the first leg, positioning them strongly to secure a semi-final berth. A win, draw, or even a loss by two goals would be enough to see them through….READ MORE….
Speaking with Slingo, Gallas described the encounter as nothing short of monumental, saying: “The words ‘big game’ fall short when describing Real Madrid vs Arsenal; it will be a monumental clash.”
While acknowledging the remarkable result from the first leg, Gallas tempered expectations, citing Arsenal’s unpredictable form as a cause for concern.
“Arsenal must replicate the intensity and quality of last week’s performance. The result was outstanding, but I’m slightly disappointed,” he stated. “Right after that world-class showing against Real Madrid, they drew 1-1 with Brentford. That inconsistency is troubling.”
He further emphasized that Arsenal should, by all accounts, advance to the next stage given their current advantage, yet warned against underestimating their Spanish opponents.
“With a 3-0 lead, there’s no excuse not to qualify,” he said. “But the atmosphere at the Bernabéu is unlike any other. If there’s one team capable of overturning such a deficit, it’s Real Madrid.”
Gallas’s remarks underscore the high stakes of tonight’s match, which kicks off at 8 p.m., and the unpredictable nature of knockout football, particularly against a side as experienced and resilient as Real Madrid.
