Jigawa Government Mandates Hijab Use For Female Security Personnel

The Jigawa State Government has issued a directive requiring private security firms in the state to permit their female personnel to wear hijabs while on duty.

According to the commissioner, the decision is aimed at fostering a more inclusive work environment, particularly for women, by enabling them to observe their religious and cultural values.

“This directive empowers female security officers to uphold their faith and cultural practices without hindrance,” Musa stated. “We believe this measure will enhance their confidence and overall morale.”

The policy emerged from a report submitted by the Council Committee on Security in Schools, Hospitals, and Courts. As part of the implementation, the state has instructed three private security firms—responsible for employing a total of 9,969 youth security personnel—to accommodate hijab use among their female staff.

“The move reflects the administration’s ongoing commitment to inclusivity and respect for modesty and dignity in the workplace,” Musa added.

In addition to the hijab directive, the State Executive Council also approved a budget of ₦516.1 million for the purchase of 184 return tickets and 185 one-way flight tickets for Jigawa State students studying medical and allied health courses at Near East University, Cyprus.

The commissioner emphasized that this initiative is part of the government’s broader effort to support education and human capital development, especially in vital sectors like healthcare.

Moreover, the Council has sanctioned the launch of the Jigawa State Creativity and Innovation Week (JISCIW), set to begin in 2025. This program is designed to promote talent development and foster innovation among young people in the state.

“The JISCIW initiative will provide a platform to discover, showcase, and support creative talents in areas such as technology, design, entrepreneurship, and the arts,” Musa explained.

He concluded by reiterating the government’s dedication to empowering the youth through policies that support creativity, innovation, and inclusive growth.
