Drama As Tenant Stabs Landlord For Separating Fight With Wife
Patrick Essien, a middle-aged man, has been apprehended by the Rivers State Police Command on charges of allegedly stabbing his landlord, Iheanyichukwu America, into a state of unconsciousness in Rumuiprikon, Obio/Akpor Local Government Area.
The incident unfolded as a result of mistreatment of Essien’s wife by him. In an attempt to rescue her, the landlord, Iheanyichukwu America, intervened, but Essien persisted in assaulting his wife.
Chioma America, the landlord’s wife, explained that her husband sought to prevent Essien’s wife from staying in their house that night to ensure her safety from further harm caused by her husband.

“Essien attempted to force his wife to go inside with him. However, my husband intervened and prevented him. My husband said he wouldn’t let the woman stay in our house due to the situation. He suggested she should stay at our family house and we would address it in the morning. Consequently, he escorted the woman out of their house.”
“Around midnight, the man returned to attack my husband, presumably to check if his wife was at our house. However, she wasn’t there. He encountered my husband instead and proceeded to attack him on behalf of his wife.”
Similarly, the landlord’s elder sister, Gladys Bardey, expressed her sorrow at the tenant’s actions, stating that the matter should be brought before the court for justice.
“I was asleep when they woke me up to inform me that my brother was stabbed by his tenant this morning. I rushed there to ascertain the truth. It’s true as I saw him and the injury is significant,” Gladys recounted.
Describing the tenant’s actions as an ‘attempted murder’, the landlord’s sister emphasized that the matter should be taken to court to ensure justice.
Grace Iringe-Koko, spokesperson for the state police command, confirmed the incident, reporting that the suspect (Essien) had been taken into custody. Iringe-Koko, a Superintendent of Police, also confirmed that the landlord was receiving medical treatment in a hospital.
“We are aware of the situation. The suspect has been apprehended and is currently in our custody. The investigation is still ongoing,” Iringe-Koko stated.
