Drama In Courtroom As Man Faces Remand For Slandering Governor Ododo
A middle-aged man, Abdulhamid Deflowerboy, has been ordered into remand custody for allegedly defaming Kogi State Governor, Alhaji Ahmed Usman Ododo
according to iReporter Online. Deflowerboy was reportedly responsible for a series of publications containing damaging claims against the governor, prompting swift legal action.
Following an official complaint, law enforcement authorities invited the suspect for questioning.
According to iReporter Online, he voluntarily appeared before the police, where he allegedly confessed to being the author of the controversial publications. His subsequent arraignment before a competent court led to his formal remand pending trial.
Commenting on the development, the Commissioner for Information and Communication in Kogi State, Kingsley Fanwo, stated that the government had pursued the matter strictly through legal channels. He clarified that the state had petitioned the Commissioner of Police, urging an investigation to ascertain the truth behind the allegations.
Fanwo dismissed reports suggesting unlawful detention, emphasizing that “claims that he is being held without trial are false, baseless, and intended to mislead the public.” He underscored that defamation remains a criminal offence under Nigerian law—not a form of protected speech—and warned against using propaganda to attack public officials.
According to iReporter Online, the commissioner accused political opponents of exploiting Deflowerboy in an attempt to destabilize a government focused on public welfare. He argued that certain individuals, discontented by the end of patronage politics, were behind the smear campaign.
Fanwo concluded by highlighting the achievements of the Ododo administration, which, he said, has gained public trust through major investments in road construction, education, healthcare, agriculture, power, erosion control, bursaries, and the welfare of civil servants and pensioners.
