E-CMR Will End Roadside Stops For Vehicle Paper Checks – Nigeria Police

The Nigeria Police Force’s Electronic Central Motor Registry (E-CMR) initiative will eliminate the need for motorists to be stopped on the road for vehicle information verification.

This was disclosed by Force Public Relations Officer, Olumuyiwa Adejobi, in a series of posts shared on X (formerly Twitter) on Thursday, outlining the advantages of the E-CMR system.

Adejobi emphasized that the “e-policing” innovation will streamline processes and enhance efficiency. Under the leadership of Inspector-General Olukayode Egbetokun, the E-CMR has been introduced to make roads safer and improve policing efficiency.

According to Adejobi, vehicle owners can now register their vehicles digitally, ensuring quicker response times in emergencies.

“If your vehicle is registered with the NPF E-CMR and gets stolen, you can immediately flag it as stolen through your online profile,” the statement read. The system will notify all field officers nationwide within seconds, increasing the chances of quick recovery.

One post highlighted that with the E-CMR system, motorists will no longer be stopped for document checks: “No more stopping to check papers—our officers are equipped with advanced tech to verify documents in real-time.”

“The NPF’s E-CMR system eliminates the need for physical documents. Access all your vehicle information digitally—quick, easy, and secure,” another post added.

Earlier this year, the IGP ordered the implementation of the digitalized Central Motor Registry system to modernize motor vehicle registration and enhance national security.

However, the enforcement, initially scheduled for July 29, 2024, was postponed to allow for widespread public education on the benefits of the E-CMR. According to a statement by Adejobi, the delay aims to raise awareness about the initiative, which is designed to enhance vehicle security by collecting data from vehicle owners and flagging stolen vehicles.
