was extended during bilateral discussions on the sidelines of the Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week 2025 (ADSW), where both leaders deliberated on strengthening ties between their nations.
President Tinubu, who arrived in Abu Dhabi on Sunday, participated in the global forum focused on fostering sustainable development and addressing critical global challenges such as climate change and energy crises. During his speech at ADSW, Tinubu reiterated Nigeria’s commitment to sustainability and praised the UAE’s leadership in this arena.
In a statement released by Tinubu’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, it was revealed that Sheikh Al Nahyan expressed his gratitude to President Tinubu for attending the event and reaffirmed the UAE’s commitment to bolstering economic collaboration with Nigeria.
Strengthening Economic Partnerships
During their discussions, both leaders explored opportunities for attracting investments into Nigeria. Tinubu highlighted the success of his administration’s economic reforms, which have stabilized the Nigerian economy and reignited investor confidence. The reforms, he noted, have led to billion-dollar investments by international oil companies and other global players.
“President Tinubu emphasized the importance of a partnership with the UAE to further propel Nigeria’s economic development,” the statement said.
Tinubu also thanked the UAE leader for the warm reception extended to him and his delegation during their visit.
A High-Level Delegation
The meeting at the Emirates Palace Mandarin Oriental in Abu Dhabi was attended by prominent officials from both countries. Accompanying President Tinubu were Foreign Affairs Minister Yusuf Tuggar, Finance Minister Wale Edun, and National Security Adviser Nuhu Ribadu.
On the UAE side, Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, and other top officials, including Reem bint Ebrahim Al Hashimy, Minister of State for International Cooperation, participated in the discussions.
Strengthened Ties and Future Collaboration
This historic invitation underscores the commitment of both nations to fostering robust bilateral relations. The upcoming visit of Sheikh Al Nahyan to Nigeria is expected to open new avenues for cooperation in areas like trade, investment, and sustainable development.
