Ekiti 2026: APC Governors, Uzodinma Back Oyebanji’s Second Term Bid

Governors elected on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC) on Monday stormed Ado-Ekiti, the Ekiti State capital, to formally flag off the party’s campaign ahead of the 2026 governorship election, where they openly declared support for Governor Biodun Abayomi Oyebanji’s second-term bid.

According to Ireporter Online, the high-profile delegation featured Governors Hope Uzodinma of Imo State, Uba Sani of Kaduna State, Ahmed Usman Ododo of Kogi State, Monday Okpebholo of Edo State, Sheriff Oborevwori of Delta State, and Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa of Ondo State.

The political gathering also attracted notable former Ekiti State governors, including Ayodele Fayose, Segun Oni, Niyi Adebayo, and Kayode Fayemi, underscoring the significance of the event across party and generational lines.

Ahead of the campaign flag-off, the governors paid a courtesy visit to the Ewi of Ado-Ekiti, Oba Rufus Adeyemo Adejugbe Aladesanmi III, where they received royal blessings and reaffirmed their commitment to a peaceful and issue-based electoral process.

Speaking on behalf of the APC Governors’ Forum, Governor Hope Uzodinma described the visit as a demonstration of solidarity and collective confidence in Oyebanji’s leadership, noting that the gathering was aimed at reinforcing unity within the party.

Uzodinma emphasized that the APC remains focused on continuity and performance, stressing that the administration in Ekiti had recorded significant progress deserving of renewed mandate.

Governor Biodun Oyebanji, in his remarks, urged residents to evaluate the forthcoming election based on governance outcomes rather than emotions, highlighting achievements in infrastructure, security, and economic reforms. He also linked his administration’s policies to the broader development agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

Other governors present at the event called on political stakeholders to maintain decorum and avoid divisive rhetoric, insisting that the campaign should be centered on development and democratic values.

The rally, which drew party leaders, traditional rulers, and supporters from across the state, marked the official commencement of political activities ahead of the Ekiti 2026 governorship race, setting the stage for what is expected to be a highly competitive contest.
