Ekiti Court Sentences Man to Life Imprisonment for Raping 10-Year-Old

An Ekiti State High Court in Ado Ekiti has sentenced Ajewole Olamilekan, 33, to life imprisonment for raping a 10-year-old girl. He was found guilty of the crime committed on June 29, 2024, in Ayetoro Ekiti.

Olamilekan and Omoyajowo Ayo, 25, were jointly charged with conspiracy and rape, but the court acquitted Ayo, citing a lack of evidence linking her to the offence.

Justice Adekunle Adeleye, who presided over the case, ruled that the prosecution had proven the rape charge beyond reasonable doubt against Olamilekan. He stated that there was no credible evidence implicating the second defendant in the crime.

The judgment was based on Section 31(2) of the Child’s Rights Law, which prescribes life imprisonment for child rape in Ekiti State.
