Black Market Dollar To Naira Exchange Rate Today 23rd February 2024
In the wake of Nigeria’s economic landscape, the Black Market Dollar to Naira exchange rate remains a topic of intense interest and concern among citizens. As of February 23, 2024, the exchange rate at the black market, also known as the parallel market, showcases a dynamic scenario, reflecting the country’s economic challenges…..READ ALSO Governor Abiodun Forecasts Dollar Crash Against Naira Within a Month, Announces Food Relief Initiatives
According to recent data, sourced from reliable Bureau De Change (BDC) outlets, the Black Market buying rate for a dollar stands at N1600, while the selling rate stands at N1607. These figures depict a continuing trend of Naira depreciation against the US dollar in this unofficial market segment.
It’s worth noting that the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) maintains a different stance, as it does not officially recognize the parallel market. Instead, it directs individuals involved in foreign exchange transactions to approach authorized banks. This directive underscores the CBN’s efforts to maintain control and stability within the official forex market channels.
Comparatively, the CBN’s official exchange rates portray a different picture. As of today, the CBN buying rate for a dollar is reported at N1488, with a selling rate of N1489. This disparity between the black market and official rates highlights the complexities within Nigeria’s forex ecosystem.
Meanwhile, against this backdrop of forex dynamics, Nigeria received a boost in its Gross Domestic Product (GDP) growth rate, as reported by the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS). The NBS revealed that Nigeria’s GDP expanded by 3.46% in the fourth quarter of 2023, with the services sector driving much of this growth with a 3.98% increase.
While positive GDP growth signals resilience in certain sectors of the economy, the prevailing challenges in the forex market, particularly in the black market segment, underscore the need for comprehensive economic strategies to address currency volatility and ensure sustainable growth across all sectors. As stakeholders analyze these economic indicators, the quest for stability and prosperity remains paramount in Nigeria’s economic narrative.
