Court Rejects Davido’s Bid To Halt Proceedings In Amaju Pinnick Lawsuit

The lawsuit, brought by Brownhill Investment Company Limited, owned by Amaju Pinnick, stems from Davido’s alleged failure to perform at the annual ‘Warri Again Concert’ despite receiving full payment. Seeking redress, Pinnick’s company demands N2 billion in general damages, along with legal fees of N150 million and an additional N30 million as suit costs.

During a recent hearing, Davido’s counsel, Norrison Quakers, SAN, cited a pending appeal and filed a motion for a stay of proceedings. However, realizing the Court of Appeal’s jurisdiction over the case, Quakers withdrew the motion, which was unopposed by Amaju’s company’s counsel, Kelechi Onwuegbuchulem.

In a decisive bench ruling, the court upheld the continuation of proceedings until an order for a stay is obtained from the Court of Appeal. Additionally, the court granted a motion to regularize Amaju’s company’s reply to the statement of defense and set a deadline for Pre-Trial Conference forms to be filed within 14 days, adjourning the case to March 21, 2024.

Davido had previously contested the court’s jurisdiction, arguing against Effurun as the venue for the case, but his preliminary objection was dismissed by the court, setting the stage for a gripping legal showdown ahead.
