No Woman Can Raise A Complete Man Alone” — Jim Iyke Sparks Debate
Nollywood actor Jim Iyke has shared his views on parenting, stressing that raising a well-rounded boy requires the involvement of both parents.
Speaking on the Lahor Podcast, the actor said mothers and fathers play different but important roles in a child’s development, arguing that one parent alone may struggle to provide every experience and lesson a boy needs while growing into adulthood.
Iyke acknowledged that single parents often do their best to raise their children, but maintained that the presence and involvement of both parents can contribute significantly to a child’s overall development.
He illustrated his point with an experience involving his son during a trip to a beach in France. According to the actor, his son returned to him after being bullied by other children who had taken his ball.
Rather than intervening on his son’s behalf, Iyke said he allowed the boy to return and deal with the situation himself. The child eventually confronted the other boys and retrieved his ball.
The actor explained that the experience was an opportunity for his son to develop confidence, resilience and the ability to stand up for himself.
Iyke stressed that such experiences can play a role in preparing boys to navigate challenges as they grow older.
He said, “No woman alive alone can raise a full man. No man alive alone can raise a full man. You need both.”
Reflecting on the incident, he added, “At a beach in France, my son was bullied by other kids. He came to report to me, but I did nothing. He went back, fought them and took his ball back. That’s how boys learn.”
His comments have generated conversations about the roles of fathers and mothers in child upbringing, particularly the importance of allowing children to develop independence while providing appropriate parental guidance and support.
