This historic occasion marks the first time that the Emirates Stadium, the renowned home ground of Arsenal’s men’s team located in north London, has reached full capacity for a WSL fixture.
In a statement shared by Arsenal on social media platform X, formerly known as Twitter, they celebrated the remarkable achievement, stating, “60,160 Emirates Stadium sold out for the first time in @BarclaysWSL history.”
The statement also acknowledged the significance of this milestone, thanking the passionate supporters, known as Gooners, for their unwavering dedication.
This extraordinary turnout surpasses Arsenal’s previous WSL attendance record of 59,042 spectators, which was set during their clash against London rivals Chelsea back in December.
Moreover, Saturday’s match not only eclipsed Arsenal’s previous record but also surpassed the overall women’s club game attendance record in England.
The previous record of 60,063 fans was also held by Arsenal, established during their European Champions League fixture against German side Wolfsburg at the Emirates Stadium last season.
With this monumental achievement, Arsenal solidifies its position as a trailblazer in women’s football, showcasing the growing popularity and support for the women’s game.
The significant turnout underscores the remarkable progress made in promoting gender equality and inclusivity within the football community.
On the sporting front, Arsenal’s victory on Saturday propelled them to third place in the WSL standings, positioning them just three points behind table-toppers Chelsea and second-placed Manchester City.
