Employee Disappears After Employer Mistakenly Paid Him 268 Times His Wages
A Chilean man who was paid over 200 times his salary has resigned and disappeared, despite promising to return the money.
The unnamed man felt like he won the lottery after being paid 286 times by his employer, a meat company called Cial.
Upon receiving his salary, he saw he was accidentally paid a staggering 65,398,851 Chilean pesos (£147,180.82), rather than his normal pay of 500,000 Chilean pesos (£444.95).
According to Chilean newspaper, Diario Financiero, when the managers noticed the error, the man was swiftly contacted and asked to pay the hefty sum.
He promised, stating he would go to the bank the following day to pick up the money.
However in a perhaps unsurprising turn of events, he failed to show up for work the following day.
Stunned managers tried to contact him – but to no avail.
When the man eventually answered, he claimed he slept in and would be going to the bank that afternoon to collect the money.
Comedically, several days later the gentleman handed in his resignation letter to the company – and has not been seen since.
The meat company have now requested the help of solicitors in a bit to recover the lost money, in what has been referred to as a crime of misappropriation

Similarly, in May, a Japanese man who was mistakenly sent his town’s entire ¥46.3m (€338,580) Covid-19 relief fund admitted to gambling away the entire sum on his smartphone in two weeks.
According to local publication SoraNews24, the mistake was due to the man’s name being at the top of the town’s list of account information sent to the bank, which was confused by a formatting issue that led it to believe the money should be transferred to his account first and later distributed to the rest of the townspeople.
The 24-year-old resident of Abu in Yamaguchi Prefecture in western Japan said he spent all the money in several overseas internet casinos but has vowed to pay it back “little by little”
