Empowering Women: UNDP, UNFPA, and Japan’s Government Boost Yobe’s GBV Survivors with ₦25.5 Million Startup Capital
Significant stride toward empowering women and addressing gender-based violence (GBV), the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), and the Government of Japan, in collaboration with the Yobe State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA), have extended support to 170 survivors of GBV, women, and girls. This initiative, aimed at fostering economic independence and resilience, saw the beneficiaries receive a total of ₦25.5 million in startup capital.
The collaborative effort highlights a commitment to restoring dignity and providing sustainable livelihoods to those affected by GBV in Yobe State. The financial assistance is intended to enable these women and girls to start small businesses, fostering economic empowerment and reducing vulnerability to future violence.
The intervention not only provides financial support but also includes training in entrepreneurship and business management. This holistic approach ensures that beneficiaries are equipped with the necessary skills to effectively utilize the startup capital and create lasting economic opportunities for themselves and their communities.
This initiative underscores the importance of partnerships in tackling social issues and enhancing the lives of vulnerable populations. By focusing on economic empowerment, the program aims to break the cycle of violence and poverty, giving survivors a fresh start and hope for a better future.
Through these combined efforts, the UNDP, UNFPA, Government of Japan, and Yobe SEMA are making a tangible difference in the lives of women and girls, contributing to a more resilient and equitable society in Yobe State.
