Enugu Gets Transport Boost As Mbah Launches 5 Ultramodern Bus Terminals
In a landmark move reshaping transportation in Enugu State, Governor Peter Mbah on Thursday inaugurated five ultramodern transport terminals across the state, as part of his integrated blueprint for a modern and multimodal transport system, according to iReporter Online.
The governor also launched the Enugu State Modern Transport System, which includes a digital platform and over 80 modern bus shelters, designed to make commuting easier for residents, according to iReporter Online.
The terminals commissioned include Holy Ghost Terminal 1 (Enugu Central Station 1) for inter-state transport; Holy Ghost Terminal 2 (Enugu Central Station 2) for inter-city transport; Nsukka Terminal (Nsukka Central Station); Abakpa Nike Terminal (Abakpa Central Station); and Gariki Terminal (Gariki Central Station).
Addressing residents at the Holy Ghost Terminal 2, Mbah emphasized that the projects were crucial to tackling traffic gridlock, enhancing economic growth, and creating employment.
“The terminals and the CNG Bus Mass Transit Scheme are central pillars of our transport agenda—integrating road, rail, air, and waterways into one seamless, safe, and efficient ecosystem,” he said, according to iReporter Online.
Mbah highlighted that the terminals, featuring amenities such as food courts, banking halls, shops, CNG refilling stations, and cinemas, along with free Wi-Fi and security equipment on buses, would generate over 20,000 jobs and stimulate small and medium enterprises across the state.
He also praised President Bola Tinubu for supporting Enugu’s development, citing the concession of Akanu Ibiam International Airport as a key boost to the state’s aviation and economic profile.
Programme Director of the Presidential Initiative on CNG, Engr. Michael Oluwagbemi, and the Managing Director of Planet Project Construction Company, Biodun Otunola, commended Mbah for the unprecedented scale of the transport terminals, describing them as a bold step towards modern, affordable, and environmentally friendly public transportation in Enugu State.
