Reports indicate that the deceased, a member of the Boys Brigade, was brutally murdered on Saturday night, with his body reportedly dismembered. Local residents and youth organizations to which the victim belonged expressed shock and grief over the incident.

According to the FCT Police Command’s Public Relations Officer, Josephine Adeh, the Police Commissioner has ordered a thorough investigation into the attack, which occurred at a Boys Brigade camp in Zhayidna Village, Karshi, on March 29, 2025.

She stated, “The attack led to the death of one camper, Johnson John, who was rushed to Karshi General Hospital but was declared dead on arrival. The investigation is ongoing, and community leaders are cooperating fully with the police to ensure the suspects are apprehended.”

Community Reactions and Eyewitness Accounts

Amadu Zachariah, the Chief of Igala in Orozo, confirmed the attack, expressing disappointment at the failure of security forces to capture the assailants. He explained that the Boys Brigade had initially set up camp at Zaina but decided to relocate to a nearby church when a rainstorm threatened.

After settling the children at the church, two group leaders returned to the original campsite to collect their belongings. It was at this point that they were ambushed by suspected herdsmen. One of the leaders managed to escape, but Johnson was caught and killed.

An eyewitness corroborated Zachariah’s account, stating that the weather had worsened, prompting the group to move to a safer location. As two leaders returned to the campsite to retrieve personal items, they were attacked. By the time villagers responded to the survivor’s alert, Johnson had already been killed.

Law enforcement agencies were immediately notified, and investigations commenced. Police discovered that Fulani herdsmen residing in the vicinity had fled the area, raising suspicions about their involvement.

Local authorities are working closely with the community to track down the perpetrators, while the police continue their investigation to bring those responsible to justice.
