Fear Grips FUPRE as VC Declares War on Alleged Protest Organizers
Professor Ezekiel Agbalagba, the Vice Chancellor of the Federal University of Petroleum Resources (FUPRE), has issued a stern warning aimed at thwarting a planned protest within the institution.
According to iReporter Online, the caution came via an official circular dated Monday, July 21, and directed to both staff and students. The circular, referenced VC/STAF&STD/25/Vol 1 and tagged “Security Alert,” revealed that university authorities had obtained credible intelligence regarding potential disruptions being plotted by certain individuals and groups.
Professor Agbalagba stated that the intelligence pointed to plans involving the blockade of access points, the incitement of unrest, and actions that could endanger lives and damage property on campus. He stressed that such activities would not be tolerated under any circumstance.
The Vice Chancellor emphasized the institution’s obligation to maintain a stable academic environment, especially in light of the federal government’s effort—under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration—to sustain an uninterrupted academic calendar across Nigerian universities.
He further warned that any individual or group attempting to disrupt the peace or contravene university regulations would face dire consequences, affirming that the university would apply the full extent of the law to maintain order.
FUPRE, he added, operates as a legitimate government entity, governed strictly by statutes, laws, and regulations that do not condone disorder or sabotage.
