Fear Grips Jos: Gunmen Abduct Road Safety Officer in Broad Daylight Drama
A female staff member of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Kate Jonathan Akpabio, has reportedly been abducted by gunmen in the Jos South Local Government Area of Plateau State.
According to security analyst Zagazola Makama, who shared the news on Tuesday via his (formerly Twitter) handle, the incident occurred around 5:30 a.m. on Monday, when armed assailants stormed Akpabio’s residence in the Rantya community and whisked her away to an unknown location.
Makama cited sources stating that a joint team of security operatives, including the military and other law enforcement agencies, was deployed to the scene following an emergency alert. However, the kidnappers had already fled with their victim before help arrived.
Security forces have since launched a search-and-rescue operation involving both the military and police.
Meanwhile, in a related development in Niger State, the village head of Guiwa, located in the Mashegu Local Government Area, Garba Mohammed, has been arrested alongside 13 others for allegedly collaborating with bandits operating within the LGA and beyond.
Sources say the arrest took place at about 9 a.m. on Friday, following an intelligence-led operation. It is alleged that the community leader’s residence was frequently used as a meeting point for the bandits to plan their criminal activities.
Spokesperson for the Niger State Police Command, SP Wasiu Abiodun, confirmed the development in a phone interview with Daily Trust. He said the arrests were part of a series of clearance operations aimed at flushing out kidnappers and bandits from known hideouts in the Mashegu area.
“On May 22, 2025, police operatives and vigilantes carried out raids on identified kidnappers’ hideouts in the Magaman-Daji forest and surrounding areas. Many suspects fled, some likely with gunshot wounds,” he said.
He added, “Continuing the operation on May 23, 2025, around 9 a.m., our team stormed Guiwa and Telle villages based on credible intelligence. The Mai Angwan of Guiwa, Mallam Garba Mohammed, was apprehended for allegedly shielding bandits. Four motorcycles and ten cattle were also recovered from his compound.”
