A prayer alert issued by the Bishop of Nnewi Diocese, Rt. Rev. Ndubuisi Obi, on Saturday, called for intercessory prayers for the Archbishop’s safe return. The Bishop shared the distressing news, stating that Archbishop Okpala, who had embarked on a journey to Umuchu with his driver, had gone missing and failed to reach his destination. Neither the Archbishop, his driver, nor their vehicle have been located since.

“We urgently request your prayers for their safety and prompt return. The authorities have been notified, and we trust in God for a positive outcome,” the Bishop’s statement read.

Responding to the alarming news on Sunday, Peter Obi condemned the rising insecurity in the country, reiterating the need for stronger government action. He lamented the widespread fear and uncertainty across Nigeria, where citizens live in constant dread of violence. Obi emphasized that the government must prioritize the safety and security of its people.

“I am deeply saddened by the disappearance of Archbishop Okpala. This appalling insecurity must be condemned in the strongest terms. Nigerians should be able to move freely without fear of terror,” Obi stated.

He continued, “I am praying for the Archbishop and his driver’s safe return and call on security agencies to take swift action in locating them. The entire Anglican Communion and the Okpala family are in my thoughts.”
