Fela Kuti & Sade Adu Honoured With Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame Induction

According to Ireporter Online, Afrobeat pioneer Fela Kuti and acclaimed British-Nigerian singer Sade Adu have been inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in recognition of their lasting global impact on music and culture.

The announcement was made during the Hall of Fame reveal segment on the reality talent show American Idol, where music legend Lionel Richie and host Ryan Seacrest confirmed the 2026 inductees.

Fela Kuti was honoured under the Early Influence category, celebrating his pioneering role in the development of Afrobeat through his fusion of West African rhythms with jazz, funk, and socially conscious messaging. The recognition comes just months after he was posthumously awarded the Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award in Los Angeles.

Sade Adu was inducted in the Performer category, applauded for her timeless contributions to soul and pop music. Known for her smooth vocal delivery and globally celebrated classics such as Smooth Operator and The Sweetest Taboo, she continues to be regarded as one of the most influential voices in contemporary music.

The 2026 induction list featured 18 artists across multiple categories, including notable names such as Phil Collins, Billy Idol, Iron Maiden, Oasis, Luther Vandross, and Wu-Tang Clan. Other honourees included Celia Cruz, Queen Latifah, MC Lyte, and music producer Rick Rubin, among others.

The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, which recognises the most influential figures across rock, pop, R&B, hip-hop, and soul, described this year’s selections as a reflection of decades of musical innovation and cultural influence.
