FG Commits To Cutting Industrial Carbon Emissions For A Sustainable Future

This pledge was made during the National Industrial Decarbonisation Programme workshop in Abuja, organized by the National Environmental Standards and Regulations Enforcement Agency (NESREA) and Oxytane Africa Investment Limited. The government plans to create a framework that will help industries transition to greener technologies, cutting both operational costs and environmental damage. Minister of Environment, Balarabe Lawal, highlighted that the industrial sector, while important for economic growth, is a significant contributor to greenhouse emissions.

The government intends to implement strategies that support low-carbon operations and encourage cleaner technologies, aligning with global climate commitments, such as the Paris Agreement. NESREA’s Director-General, Dr. Innocent Barikor, added that the programme would establish a strong regulatory framework for monitoring and enforcing decarbonization targets, focusing on energy efficiency, carbon credit generation, and fostering collaboration across sectors.
