Revolutionizing Nigeria’s Energy Sector: Natasha’s LNG Initiative To Slash Carbon Emissions

Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, representing Kogi Central, has emphasized that the establishment of five Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) plants in Ajaokuta, Kogi, will drive cleaner energy alternatives and significantly reduce carbon emissions.

The senator praised the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) for its commitment to sustainable energy policies, which she believes will contribute to national economic growth while preserving the environment.

In a statement released on Friday in Abuja, Natasha expressed her gratitude to both the NNPC and the Federal Government for bringing this transformative project to life, noting that it aligns with global best practices.

“I am thrilled to extend my sincere appreciation to the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation and the Federal Government for the establishment of five Mini LNG plants in Ajaokuta Local Government, Kogi,” she said.

“This breakthrough is a monumental step toward promoting cleaner energy, reducing carbon emissions, and enhancing energy security in Nigeria. It is a testament to the government’s unwavering commitment to sustainable energy development.”

She explained that utilizing the vast natural gas resources in Kogi will ensure the sustainability of these plants, providing employment opportunities while stimulating industrial growth in the region.

“The plants will not only provide cleaner and more affordable energy but will also foster job creation and industrial development, benefiting local communities and businesses,” Natasha added.

As Senate Committee Chairman on Local Content, she also highlighted the inclusion of local expertise in executing the project, which supports the goals of the Nigerian Oil and Gas Industry Content Development Act (2010). This, she said, will help develop indigenous skills and encourage technology transfer.

The senator emphasized the environmental benefits of the LNG plants, particularly their potential to reduce carbon emissions and air pollution, paving the way for a cleaner future. She also noted that the project would help address the region’s energy challenges, promote industrialization, and attract both local and foreign investments.

“As we celebrate this significant achievement, I am committed to advocating for policies that prioritize the well-being of our people and the advancement of Kogi Central,” Natasha concluded. “I urge all stakeholders to collaborate to ensure the long-term success of this remarkable initiative.”
