FG, Lagos Govt To Close Third Mainland Bridge, Gives Reason

Third Mainland Bridge

The Lagos State Government has announced upcoming repair work on the failed sections of the heavily trafficked Third Mainland Bridge. This palliative effort will be carried out jointly by the Public Works Corporation of the state and the Federal Ministry of Works and Housing.

Abdulhafiz Toriola, the Permanent Secretary of the state Ministry of Transportation, detailed that the repairs are scheduled for two consecutive Sundays, September 17 and 24, running from 7 am to 7 pm on both days.

To accommodate the repairs, alternative routes have been outlined. Motorists traveling from the Alapere/Ogudu axis of Lagos-Ibadan Expressway bound for Lagos Island will be redirected towards Gbagada-Oshodi Expressway. From there, they will connect to Ikorodu Road/Funsho Williams Avenue to access Eko Bridge and reach Lagos Island.

Similarly, drivers headed from Lagos Mainland through Herbert Macaulay Road (Adekunle axis) towards Lagos Island via Third Mainland Bridge will be rerouted towards Murtala Muhammed Way. They will then use Carter Bridge to reach Lagos Island.
