FG Promises Nationwide Power Access by 2030 – No Nigerian Left In The Dark

The Managing Director of the Rural Electrification Agency (REA), Abba Aliyu, has reaffirmed the Federal Government’s dedication to ensuring full electricity access across Nigeria by 2030.

Aliyu emphasized that the collaboration between the REA and state governments demonstrates a united effort to tackle Nigeria’s energy access challenges. He noted that this partnership highlights the strong cooperative framework the REA has established with state authorities to achieve nationwide electrification.

In a statement shared on his X handle, Aliyu revealed that discussions with the governors and Renewable Energy Service Companies (RESCOs) focused on scaling up decentralized renewable energy solutions and deploying sustainable, cost-effective electrification projects in areas that need them most.

“If we maintain this momentum, we will undoubtedly achieve Mr. President’s vision of 100% electricity access by 2030,” Aliyu stated.

During the meeting, both governors reaffirmed their commitment to rural electrification, pledging to align their state-level energy initiatives with REA’s strategic vision. This synergy is expected to speed up project implementation and ensure efficient service delivery.

They also committed to improving coordination between the REA and their respective State Ministries of Power/Energy to foster a policy environment conducive to smooth electrification project execution.

Aliyu stressed the importance of empowering local communities by raising public awareness of renewable energy adoption and encouraging local involvement in project execution. He cited the success of the Rural Electricity Users Cooperative Society (REUCS) as a model for community-driven electrification projects.

“These engagements reaffirm the REA’s role as a driving force in Nigeria’s energy transformation, ensuring that innovations at the state level complement federal policies to promote sustainable, community-led electrification efforts,” Aliyu said.

He further highlighted that the de-monopolization of Nigeria’s electricity market has ushered in an era of competitive, state-led innovations, accelerating private-sector investments and energy expansion.

Aliyu concluded by stating that through deepened collaboration between the REA, state governments, and private sector stakeholders, Nigeria is not only closing energy access gaps but also building a resilient, inclusive, and sustainable energy future.

“Together, we will achieve universal electricity access and unlock socio-economic opportunities for millions,” he added.
