Film Set Clash Explodes: Arimoro Threatens ₦1 Billion Suit After Guild Suspension
According to Ireporter Online, actor Taye Arimoro has formally rejected the suspension issued against him by the Actors Guild of Nigeria, the Directors Guild of Nigeria, and the Association of Movie Producers following a dispute with actress and producer Peggy Ovire during the filming of Pieces of Love.
A letter from Arimoro’s legal team, released on Tuesday, stated that the guilds not only misidentified him by using the name “Taiye Ayimoro” instead of his correct name, but also lacked the authority to impose disciplinary action, as he is not a registered member of any of the three bodies.
His lawyers demanded the immediate reversal of the suspension, alongside a written apology and a public statement clarifying the matter. Arimoro warned that failure to comply within 24 hours would result in a ₦1 billion legal action.
The controversy stems from an incident on November 11 during the film’s production. Arimoro alleged that after completing his assigned scenes, Peggy Ovire insisted he remain on set and prevented him from leaving. He claimed he was restrained and physically assaulted by members of her team, an experience he said left him with injuries and emotional distress.
Peggy Ovire, through her legal representatives, rejected the allegations, asserting that Arimoro initiated the confrontation by attacking the production manager and her driver. They described his statement as inaccurate and intended to mislead the public.
Following their inquiry into the incident, the three guilds concluded that Arimoro was responsible for the altercation and subsequently placed him on indefinite suspension. They also instructed Ovire to tender an apology for escalating the matter beyond the film set.
