According to Ireporter Online, operatives of the Ogun State Police Command have successfully rescued five students of Gateway Polytechnic who were abducted by suspected armed criminals during a late-night attack on April 27, 2026.

The incident occurred at about 10:55 p.m. and triggered a distress call to the Ipara Police Division. A patrol team that arrived at the scene reportedly discovered an ash-coloured Toyota vehicle riddled with bullet holes and stained with blood, alongside several personal belongings, including mobile phones.

Preliminary investigation led to the recovery of a student identity card, which confirmed the victims’ association with the institution. This development prompted an immediate escalation of the case and the launch of a coordinated rescue operation.

The Commissioner of Police in Ogun State, CP Bode Ojajuni, subsequently ordered the deployment of tactical units, directing an intelligence-led mission to secure the release of the abducted students.

Police spokesperson, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, disclosed that operatives drawn from the Isara Area Command, Ipara Division, SWAT, Anti-Kidnapping Unit, Violent Crime Response Unit, Quick Response Squad, and OP MESA conducted extensive bush combing and tracking operations across suspected escape routes.

He noted that sustained pressure from the security teams yielded results on April 28, leading to the successful rescue of all five students. The victims were immediately evacuated, debriefed, and taken for medical attention after reportedly enduring harsh conditions in captivity.

During the operation, the kidnappers were said to have engaged the police in a gun duel but were overpowered, forcing them to flee with suspected gunshot injuries. No casualties were recorded among the security operatives.

CP Ojajuni commended the officers involved for their bravery and professionalism, attributing the success of the operation to effective intelligence gathering and rapid response.
