Police Attribute Death Of Delta Suspect To Spiritual Factors
According to Ireporter Online, the Delta State Police Public Relations Officer, Bright Edafe, has described the killing of a suspect in Effurun, Delta State, as a deeply troubling incident, suggesting that spirituality may be the only way to interpret the circumstances surrounding the shooting.
Edafe made the remarks on Wednesday during an interview on Channels Television’s The Morning Brief, where he reacted to the death of Mene Ogidi, who was allegedly shot by an Assistant Superintendent of Police, Nuhu Usman, after the suspect had been apprehended.
He noted that the incident has left the command without a clear explanation, describing it as one of the most difficult moments in his years as a police spokesperson.
According to him, the case defies logical reasoning within policing experience, making it hard to understand what led to the officer’s actions.
He said, “I will start with the issue at hand, which is a very sad issue. Since my six years of public relations, this is my most difficult moment, because having an incident that cannot be explained is very difficult. There is no explanation for this. That policeman, I just don’t get what I will say was wrong with him.”
While stressing that the police institution does not officially attribute incidents to spiritual causes, Edafe added that the circumstances surrounding the shooting remain difficult to rationalize.
He further stated, “Police cannot attribute problems to spirituality, but that may not be far from me, because that’s the only explanation that one can give to what he did.”
The officer is alleged to have shot Ogidi dead in Effurun shortly after his arrest, an incident that has continued to generate concern and reactions.
