Fixing Roads Better Than Giving Out Palliatives – Yahaya Bello
Yahaya Bello, the Governor of Kogi State, emphasized that investing in the construction of roads and critical infrastructure holds greater significance than providing temporary palliatives to Nigerians.
During an inspection of the Abuja-Lokoja road alongside the Minister of Works, Dave Umahi, Bello expressed his view.
He highlighted that improving road infrastructure nationwide would have a positive impact on poverty alleviation, making it a more effective approach than offering short-term relief measures.
Bello stressed the importance of the Abuja-Lokoja road due to its role in connecting various regions of Nigeria, including the southwest, south-south, southeast, the Federal Capital Territory, and the northern areas.
Additionally, Bello commended President Bola Tinubu for appointing Dave Umahi as the Minister of Works, noting Umahi’s practical approach to governance. Bello referred to Umahi as a leader who focuses on tangible results rather than mere media appearances.
He encouraged civil servants to collaborate sincerely and dedicatedly with Umahi to ensure the successful delivery of high-quality infrastructure projects across the country.
In response, Dave Umahi assured his commitment to constructing durable concrete roads throughout Nigeria, underscoring their long-lasting benefits. He encouraged contractors to submit their quotations for concrete road projects as part of this initiative.
