Foundation Delivers Relief Items to Niger Govt After Deadly Flood
The North South Power Foundation has provided food assistance to the Niger State Government for victims of the devastating flood that struck Mokwa Local Government Area two weeks ago.
The flood, triggered by intense rainfall, resulted in the deaths of nearly 200 people, left over 3,000 residents homeless, and destroyed more than 50 houses. In response, both public and private entities across Nigeria have extended condolences and humanitarian support to the affected communities.
The Federal Government earlier pledged N2 billion for relocating displaced residents and rebuilding damaged homes, while the Niger State Government committed N1 billion. Additional donations came from the Borno State Government with N300 million and Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, Peter Obi, who contributed N20 million.
Joining the growing list of supporters, the North South Power Foundation, based in Shiroro, delivered a large consignment of food items, worth millions of naira, to ease the hardship faced by the victims. The foundation’s Corporate Social Responsibility Consultant, Hassan Abdullahi, led the team to the state capital to make the donation.
The items presented included:
-
50 bags of 25kg rice
-
50 bags of 25kg beans
-
50 bags of 10kg semovita
-
50 cartons of spaghetti
-
50 bags of salt
-
50 cartons of seasoning (Maggi)
-
50 gallons of 5kg kings oil
-
50 gallons of 5kg palm oil
“We are here in solidarity with the Niger State Government and the people of Mokwa. These items represent our heartfelt support. We pray such a tragedy never occurs again,” Abdullahi remarked during the presentation.
Receiving the items, Niger State Commissioner for Humanitarian Affairs and Disaster Management, Ahmed Suleiman, expressed appreciation to the foundation, assuring that the relief materials would be swiftly distributed to the victims.
“These donations will go directly to the victims. We thank the North South Power Foundation for this kind gesture and pray for their continued success,” Suleiman said.
