Four Killed, Nine Injured In Auto Crash On Lagos-Ibadan Expressway

Eyewitness reports indicate that a Toyota Hiace bus, traveling from Ibadan to Lagos, lost control after its left rear tire burst due to a bad section of the road. The vehicle somersaulted and veered off the road, resulting in the immediate death of four people, including the driver. Nine other passengers sustained injuries.

Police officers managed traffic at the scene and conducted an initial investigation. The injured victims were transported to Victory Hospital, Ogere, for treatment, while the deceased were taken to FOS Mortuary, Ipara, for autopsy. The vehicle wreckage has been moved for inspection by the Vehicle Inspection Office (VIO).

Authorities urged motorists to ensure proper vehicle maintenance and adhere to traffic regulations to prevent such tragedies.

In a related incident, a multiple-vehicle crash along Olomore Housing Road, Abeokuta, led to the death of a motorcycle rider, 25-year-old Muhammad Dahuru. The accident, which occurred at around 8:00 p.m. on March 9, involved a Toyota Camry, two motorcycles, and a tricycle. Three others sustained injuries but were treated and discharged.

Investigations suggest reckless driving by the Toyota Camry driver as the primary cause. The suspect has been taken into custody as police continue their probe.

Additionally, an unidentified female pedestrian was struck by a motorcycle while crossing Lafenwa Road in Abeokuta. The victim suffered a severe head injury and was rushed to the Federal Medical Centre (FMC) in Idi Aba, Abeokuta, where she later died. The motorcyclist has been detained, and authorities are conducting further investigations.
