Fresh Details Emerge As National Grid Collapses Again

A widespread power outage has occurred in Nigeria following the reported collapse of the national electricity grid early Thursday morning.

This collapse has led to a substantial loss of power supply for distributors across the country.

Several electricity distribution companies have acknowledged this development through statements released on Thursday morning.

The Enugu Electricity Distribution Company Plc, in a notice posted on its official account (formerly Twitter) this morning, stated that they are on standby, awaiting detailed information regarding the collapse and the restoration of power supply from the National Control Centre (NCC) in Osogbo.

“The Enugu Electricity Distribution Company PLC (EEDC) wishes to inform her esteemed customers of a total system collapse which occurred at 12:40am today, 14th September,2023. This has resulted in the loss of supply currently being experienced across the network.

“Due to this development, all our interface TCN stations are out of supply, and we are unable to provide service to our customers in Abia, Anambra, Ebonyi, Enugu and Imo States.

“We are on standby awaiting detailed information of the collapse and restoration of supply from the National Control Centre (NCC), Osogbo,” the statement read.

The Eko Electricity Distribution Company has issued a similar notice to its customers on its former Twitter account (now known as X), confirming the complete collapse of the grid.

The company also assured that they are in continuous contact with the National Control Centre (NCC) in Osogbo and will provide further updates to customers as more information becomes available.

This marks the first significant power grid collapse since a similar incident occurred in September 2022.

The transmission company reported last month that the power grid had maintained uninterrupted stability for over 400 consecutive days.
