Fresh Petrol Tanker Fire Destroys Multi-Million Naira Property In Gombe

A multi-million naira property narrowly escaped destruction after a fuel tanker caught fire while offloading diesel at the Rain Oil Filling Station in Tumfure, Gombe metropolis, on Friday, December 26. According to Ireporter Online, the incident occurred in the early hours and was promptly contained by operatives of the Federal Fire Service, Gombe State Command, averting what could have been a major disaster.

The Public Relations Officer of the Federal Fire Service in Gombe, ASF MB Muazu, confirmed that firefighters were immediately dispatched following a distress call. He praised the professionalism and swift response of the team, noting that the fire did not fully engulf the tanker or spread to nearby structures.

“The affected area is a highly sensitive commercial zone. Our prompt intervention prevented a potential chain reaction that could have endangered surrounding facilities and properties estimated at over ₦500 million,” Muazu said. The fire occurred near other filling stations, busy commercial centers, and the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited depot in Tumfure, heightening the risk of a large-scale incident.

No casualties were reported, a development the Federal Fire Service described as evidence of its preparedness and commitment to protecting lives and property. Muazu also urged operators of filling stations and petroleum facilities to strictly follow safety protocols during the discharge of petroleum products to prevent similar accidents.

He further commended the Nigeria Police Force, Tumfure Division, and the Department of State Services for providing security support during the operation. Residents later resumed normal activities once the fire was fully extinguished and the area secured.
