From Health Speculations To High Gear Governance: Tinubu’s Energetic Start As President
By Osigwe Omo-Ikirodah.
In the annals of Nigerian politics, the transition from speculation about a leader’s health to an energetic start in governance is a narrative that deserves attention. President Tinubu, despite earlier concerns surrounding his health, has astoundingly hit the ground running with an unwavering commitment to restoring the country’s glory.
His actions in office thus far not only showcase his dedication but also his robust vigor in leading the nation.
Before the current administration, corruption had intertwined itself with the very fabric of the nation, impeding its growth and development. The multifaceted nature of corrupt practices had left Nigeria grappling with a myriad of challenges across various sectors.
Among these difficulties, the subsidy and the Naira exchange rate had the dubious reputation of being the epicentre of corruption in top-level governance. The subsidy alone had grown into a gigantic entity, sucking in over 7 trillion Naira each year, effectively suffocating the economy and preventing progress in critical areas such as infrastructure, education, and healthcare.
On his very first day in office, President Tinubu took bold steps to address these issues head-on. He tackled the subsidy and simultaneously unified the Naira exchange rate, demonstrating his unshakeable political will and preparedness to solve the nation’s difficulties.
It’s worth recalling that this is the same President Tinubu who was portrayed by some as unable to stand on his own, with accusations that he was unaware of his surroundings and lacked control over his senses.
The most egregious lie was that he had Parkinson’s disease, rendering him incapable of doing even the most basic chores, let alone signing critical documents as Commander in Chief.
President Tinubu, on the other hand, has not only withstood the critics but also proved his dedication to serving Nigeria assiduously via divine grace and sheer resolve. He has met with a diverse range of stakeholders, including health and labour unions, as well as oil and gas, power, and renewable energy, as well as local traditional rulers, lawyers, senior diplomatic emissaries, world leaders, and investors.
Furthermore, he has assumed a leadership role within ECOWAS, solidifying his presence on the global stage.
This astonishing start by a leader who had previously been portrayed as a desperate and ill figure demonstrates President Tinubu’s sincerity and commitment to his duty. He has started the groundwork for a strong vision for the nation’s growth and sustainability.
As we negotiate the complex environment of Nigerian politics, we should remember the proverb “once bitten, twice shy” and exercise care when confronted with deceptive narratives created by the opposition about the administration’s achievements.
President Tinubu’s actions speak louder than words as he steadfastly steers the nation’s ship towards a brighter future. May God continue to bless the President with good health and vigour to elevate Nigeria to a position of global leadership that every citizen can be proud of.
