Fubara Breaks Silence, Promises Swift Completion Of Port Harcourt Ring Road Project
According to Ireporter Online, Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has reaffirmed his administration’s unwavering commitment to completing the 62.65-kilometre Port Harcourt Ring Road project, describing it as a vital infrastructure undertaking that will transform the state’s transport network and boost economic growth.
Governor Fubara gave the assurance on Monday during an on-site inspection of the project at the Eneka Flyover axis in Obio/Akpor Local Government Area. Accompanied by senior government officials, the governor stated that his visit was aimed at assessing the level of compliance and performance by Julius Berger Nigeria Plc, the construction company in charge of the project.
He clarified that the Ring Road project had not been abandoned but temporarily stalled due to financial challenges. “You are aware that this project was not abandoned, but for lack of funds, the contractor withdrew from the site. We have been in discussions with them, and although all the details have not been finalized, they have already returned to work. I came to confirm that development,” he stated.
Governor Fubara emphasized that the Port Harcourt Ring Road, which spans six local government areas, is one of the most ambitious infrastructure projects ever embarked upon in Rivers State. He noted that once completed, the project would significantly decongest traffic within the capital and open up new economic opportunities for adjoining communities.
“I want to assure the good people of Rivers State that this project, by the special grace of God, will be completed. We owe our people a duty to deliver on our promises, and this project will not be an exception,” Fubara pledged.
The multi-billion-naira project, regarded as a flagship initiative of the Fubara administration, was temporarily disrupted during the six-month emergency rule in the state, during which the governor was suspended and Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas (retd.) appointed as Administrator.
