Fubara Swears In New SSG & Chief Of Staff, Issues Strict Warning On Politicising Govt Offices
The Governor of Rivers State, Siminalayi Fubara, on Thursday officially swore in Dagogo Wokoma as Secretary to the State Government (SSG) and Sunny Ewule as Chief of Staff, urging them to maintain the administrative integrity of their offices. According to reports, the oath of office was administered shortly after the governor announced their appointments.
Speaking during the ceremony, Fubara stressed that the roles of SSG and Chief of Staff are primarily administrative and service-oriented. He advised the new Chief of Staff to refrain from convening unauthorized meetings or engaging in political activities outside the scope of his duties without prior approval.
The governor emphasized that both positions are designed to support his administration’s objectives, serve as personal aides, and enhance governance rather than act as platforms for political patronage. He encouraged Wokoma, a mathematics lecturer, to leverage his academic expertise in promoting diligence, objectivity, and proper representation of the government in official matters.
Fubara reiterated his administration’s commitment to sustaining ongoing projects and advancing inherited programmes, highlighting that the ultimate aim is to ensure peace, progress, and prosperity across the state. He warned that any conduct that could bring the government into disrepute would not be tolerated and assured that the performance of the new appointees would be closely monitored to align with the government’s agenda.
The governor also addressed permanent secretaries present at the event, directing those who have reached retirement age to prepare their handover notes. He called for enhanced cooperation across the civil service, emphasizing that the remainder of his tenure should focus on productivity and collective success. Fubara described the appointments as well-considered decisions intended to strengthen governance and support the effective administration of the state.
