Wike Heads Rivers Leaders’ Delegation To London Over Senator Mpigi’s Death, Pledges Support To Family
According to Ireporter Online, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, on Thursday led a delegation of Rivers State leaders on a condolence visit to the family of the late senator representing Rivers South-East Senatorial District, Barinada Mpigi, in London.
Senator Mpigi passed away at the age of 64 in London last Thursday following a brief illness. Wike’s Senior Special Assistant on Public Communications and Social Media, Lere Olayinka, stated that the minister was accompanied by his two sons, Jordan and Joaquin, the Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly, Martin Amaewhule, Senators Magnus Abe, Allwell Onyesoh, and Olaka Nwogu, as well as the Rivers State PDP Chairman, Aaron Chukwuemeka, and party stalwarts including Felix Nweke, Kenneth Chikere, and Dum Deekor.
Describing the late senator as a “dependable ally who stood by his friends through all circumstances,” Wike said his death was a significant loss, not only to the Ogoni people but to the entire nation. He emphasized the strength and dedication of both Senator Mpigi and his family, noting his close personal relationship with the deceased and his enduring influence in Rivers State politics.
Wike assured the family of continued support and pledged to ensure a befitting burial for the late senator. “We will play our part and will not forget Bari,” he said, urging the family to remain strong in the face of their loss. Patricia Obiageri Mpigi, the widow of the late senator, expressed gratitude to Wike for his presence and support, stating, “All I can say is thank you for all you have done.”
