Funke Akindele Misses Out At AMVCA 2026 Despite Massive ‘Behind The Scenes’ Online Buzz
According to Ireporter Online, Nollywood actress and filmmaker Funke Akindele has missed out on the Best Supporting Actress award at the 12th edition of the Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards (AMVCA), with the category going to her colleague Linda Ejiofor for her performance in The Herd.
Despite widespread expectations and strong online buzz surrounding Akindele’s performance in Behind The Scenes, the veteran actress left the ceremony without a win. Her film had earned four nominations, including Best Supporting Actress, Best Supporting Actor, Best Lead Actress, and Best Movie, following its impressive box office performance of over ₦2 billion.
The Best Supporting Actress category featured a competitive lineup of nominees, including Bisola Aiyeola (Gingerrr), Sola Sobowale (The Covenant), Nadia Dutch (Aljana), Amal Umar (The Herd), Juliebrenda Nyambura (MTV Shuga Mashariki), and Olamide Kidbaby (Oversabi Aunty). However, Ejiofor’s role as the wife of a kidnapped man in The Herd, a satirical drama exploring insecurity and societal challenges, ultimately secured her the win.
While Behind The Scenes dominated online prediction polls and fan discussions ahead of the ceremony, the final decision was determined by a jury panel chaired by veteran actress Joke Silva. In other categories, Bucci Franklin won Best Supporting Actor for his role in To Kill A Monkey.
