The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has announced that it will present its 2025 Seasonal Climate Prediction (SCP) on Tuesday, February 4, 2025. The event, themed “The Role of Early Warnings towards a Climate-Resilient Aviation Industry for Sustainable Socio-Economic Development,” will deliver crucial climate forecasts for the year.

According to a statement from NiMet on Monday, the SCP will cover important details on rainfall and temperature patterns, including the start and end dates of the rainy season, the duration of the cropping season, and the total expected rainfall for each of Nigeria’s 774 Local Government Areas.

The SCP will also feature temperature projections from January to May, along with vigilance warnings for diseases such as malaria and meningitis.

NiMet’s Director General and CEO, Prof. Charles Anosike, highlighted the importance of the SCP, stating that it provides vital weather and climate information that could impact various sectors such as agriculture, aviation, disaster risk management, health, oil and gas, telecommunications, tourism, transportation, power, and water resources management.

The SCP is an essential tool for addressing climate-related challenges across different sectors. Prof. Anosike added that the publication also outlines the socioeconomic impacts of the predicted rainfall and temperature patterns.
