Ganduje’s Former Aide Quits APC, Embraces Kwankwasiyya Movement

A former political adviser to ex-Kano State Governor Abdullahi Ganduje, Mustapha Hamza Buhari Bakwana, has announced his resignation from the All Progressives Congress (APC) and declared his allegiance to the Kwankwasiyya movement under the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP).

Bakwana made the declaration on Monday during a meeting with his political associates and supporters in Kano.

Explaining his decision to dump the ruling party, Bakwana accused Ganduje’s camp of marginalisation, exclusion, and a lack of genuine political direction.

“I have been part of the APC since its inception, but over time, we were treated as outsiders. There was no regard for contribution, no room for internal democracy,” he said.

He further alleged that the APC in Kano had become a “private estate” serving the interests of a few individuals loyal to Ganduje, while sidelining others.

“They have turned the party into a private estate where only a few can thrive, while the rest are sidelined and silenced,” Bakwana added.

The former aide criticised what he described as the party’s drift from public service to vendetta politics, insisting his defection was a stand against such practices.

Bakwana’s move is seen as a significant boost to the Kwankwasiyya movement, the influential political structure led by former governor Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, which has been positioning itself ahead of the 2027 elections.
