“GO-MERD Begins! Obidient Movement Storms Akwa With Bold Political Campaign”
Obidient Movement Launches GO-MERD Campaign in Akwa Ibom to Tackle Electoral Manipulation
The Obidient Movement in Akwa Ibom State has officially launched its GO-MERD campaign — “Get Organised – Make Election Rigging Difficult” — as part of a broader effort to empower citizens and promote electoral integrity across the state.
According to iReporter Online, the campaign was unveiled at a well-attended event, where Dr. Ben Smith, State Coordinator of the Obidient Movement, described the initiative as a revolutionary step in putting electoral power directly in the hands of the people.
“We stand upon the threshold of history at this most defining moment in the life of our nation,” Dr. Smith declared. “If we must bequeath a brighter future to our children and generations yet unborn, then we must act now.”
According to iReporter Online, Dr. Smith emphasized that the campaign aims to mobilize the youth, awaken civic consciousness, and challenge the systemic poverty caused by decades of misrule.
He described Akwa Ibom as a state rich in resources, yet plagued by underdevelopment, unemployment, and infrastructural decay.
“The Get Your PVC & GO-MERD campaign provides us with a veritable tool to arrest this menace,” he said. “It places the responsibility of the change you seek in your hands.”
He painted a vivid picture of life in the state, referencing mothers selling peppers by candlelight, fathers working in oil fields but unable to afford education for their children, and hospitals where newborns cry in darkness due to power shortages.
“Shall we keep silent while kleptocrats mortgage the destiny of our children yet unborn?” he asked.
According to iReporter Online, Smith urged Akwa Ibom residents to register and collect their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs), join or create voting blocs, and mobilize at least 100 voters per polling unit to resist vote buying and political apathy.
He concluded by reminding attendees that “a New Nigeria is POssible” — but only through active participation, sacrifice, and a refusal to settle for less.
“Together, we will build the Nigeria of our dreams. Get Your PVC & GO-MERD in Akwa Ibom State,” he affirmed.
