Governor Abiodun Swears in Three New Judges, Urges Commitment to Justice and Integrity
Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, on Monday formally inaugurated three newly appointed judges into the state’s judiciary, charging them to serve as unwavering defenders of justice and protectors of citizens’ rights.
The new appointees are Justice Julius Ojikutu, former Chief Registrar of the Ogun State High Court, Abeokuta; Justice Adejumoke Adewole, former Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development; and Justice Oluyemisi Adebo, former Secretary of the Ogun State Judicial Service Commission.
Speaking during the swearing-in ceremony, Governor Abiodun described the role of judges as critical to upholding the rule of law and sustaining Nigeria’s democratic institutions. He urged the new judicial officers to let fairness, integrity, and the fear of God guide their judgments, stressing that the judiciary must remain firm and impartial in the face of political, social, or economic pressures.
“Our democracy thrives because judges of conscience stand firm in defending the ethos of democratic institutions without fear or favour,” he said. “This is not merely a legal obligation; it is a moral one, ensuring that justice is felt in tangible ways by every citizen, regardless of tribe, religion, political affiliation, or economic status.”
The governor reminded the judges to uphold the principle of separation of powers while working harmoniously with the executive and legislature within constitutional limits for the benefit of the people. He reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to supporting the judiciary through adequate resources and respect for judicial independence.
“I am a grateful beneficiary of the courage, impartiality, and fidelity to the rule of law shown by our courts. We will continue to respect court judgments, support the judiciary, and enhance processes that guarantee swift and fair dispensation of justice,” Abiodun affirmed.
