Governor Makinde Reacts To Supreme Court Ruling On LG-Autonomy: It Has Created-Confusion
Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde has expressed deep concern over the Supreme Court’s recent ruling granting financial autonomy to local governments. Makinde, addressing stakeholders at an emergency meeting, highlighted that the decision has sparked widespread confusion within the governance framework.
During the consultative session, attended by key figures including legal experts and local government representatives, Governor Makinde announced the formation of technical and legal committees to review the Supreme Court judgment. He underscored that while the issue of fund allocation is critical, Nigeria’s foremost challenge lies in enhancing productivity and economic growth.
The Governor criticized what he termed as federal government interference tactics, emphasizing Oyo State’s commitment to autonomously manage local governance affairs without external dictates. He further pledged to address challenges facing local government areas through collaborative efforts with elected officials.
Makinde’s remarks reflect ongoing deliberations and proactive measures aimed at resolving the implications of the Supreme Court’s landmark decision on local government autonomy.
